FAQs

What is Cutting Edge?
Cutting Edge is the first and only show choir on the Univeristy of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus. Our group performs a wide variety of selections, from a cappella and vocal jazz, to high energy pop songs. And, did we mention that we dance too?  From swing to salsa to jazz, we do it all! Cutting Edge also includes a live combo band-enabling our high energry performances and helping us stand out from the other singing groups on campus.

Do I have to be a music major to be in C.E.?
Nope. Cutting Edge members come from every college at the University of Illinois & Parkland College. Our group is completely student run and offers many leadership positions for new and old members. We believe in quality before quantity when choosing new Cutting Edge members, so it's impossible to say how many people will be selected after auditions.

What will the audition be like?
You'll be asked to sing one minute of a prepared selection a capella. We will also warm you up, and test your range. Later that night we will bring everyone back to learn a dance taught to you by our choreographer. After learning the dance together, you will audition in groups. Call backs will be held on the day following the last auditions.

I don't sing, but can I play my instrument for C.E.?
Yes!  Cutting Edge has a full instrumental combo. It normally includes: Piano, Bass, Drums, Guitar, Trombones, Trumpets, and Saxophones. If you're interested in being a part of our combo, even if you don't play one of the above instruments, please contact CuttingEdgeShowChoir@gmail.com.
